The World Banks definition of absolute poverty is US$1.25 a day PPP.
Below this a person cannot afford the minimum amount of food and non food essentials
Relative Poverty is a useful measure as it relates to the level of poverty to the distribution of income across the whole population
The Gini Coefficient is used to measure levels of income inequality within countries. The lower the value to more equal the distribution
