Q

explain beach profiling

A

Measure total length of the beach
Divide the total length by 10
Place one ranging pole at the starting position (first interval) and another ranging pole at the end of the interval then using a clinometer, find the angle between the like colours on the ranging poles (i.e. the same area on the other pole) (take bearing)
Repeat this for the rest of the intervals
(could potentially repeat it three times to remove anomalous data)
Then add this data to a recording sheet.

Q

sediment analysis

A

Choose the site
Measure the height (longest axis) and width of the sediment using calipers
Then using the powers scale of roundness determine the ‘roundness’ of the sediment. (though it would be better to use other student’s opinions as well (3 others) to come to a more accurate conclusion)

Q

long shore d

A

Place one ranging pole at the shore of the beach
Place the orange in front of the pole. Start the timer for one minute at the same time when putting the orange into the sea
After one minute, put another ranging pole at where the orange was
Use a measuring tape to find the distance between the two poles
Record the distance and also take note of which direction the orange had travelled towards

Q

cliff surveys

A

At a safe distance, (measure distance with tape ) commence the field work.
Use clinometer to look up to the top of the cliff and measure the angle and then you can potentially measure the height.
