Q

What are fine and coarse particles?

A
  • Fine particles (soot), 100-2500 nm diameter, 1 x 10-7 m to 2.5 x 10-6 m
  • Coarse particles, PM10 (dust), 1 x 10-5 nm to 2.5 x 10-6m

Q

Why do nanoparticles have different properties to those for the same materials in bulk?

A

High surface area to volume ratio, less nanoparticles needed compared to normal material sizes.

Q

What are the risks of using nanoparticles?

A
  • nanoparticles may be absorbed into the body and enter our cells
  • no one knows the effects of this
