A

When turning a corner the rear-wheels of the trailer follow a wider path than the forward-wheels of the trailer. It’s important to turn the tractor wide (as you’re turning, not before) to compensate for the off-tracking of the trailer’s rear-wheels.

The trailer air supply control activates the trailer protection valve which is designed to prevent excessive air pressure loss in the vehicle’s brake system in the event that the trailer becomes disconnected while driving and/or if the air supply develops a leak.The control allows you to manually open and shut the valve. The valve will close automatically if air pressure drops down to 25-40 psi.

a) Park the tractor and chock the wheels.
b) Wait until air pressure reaches normal and then push-in the trailer air-supply knob to supply air to the emergency air-line.
c) Use the trolley valve to supply the service air-line with air.
d) At the rear of the last trailer, open the shut-off valve for the emergency air-line and listen for escaping air, then close the valve.
e) Repeat step d with the service line.

A

Shut the engine off and press the brake pedal multiple times so the air pressure drops. The trailer air-supply knob should pop out once air-pressure reaches 20-45 psi.

How can you test the trailer emergency brakes?

A

a) Wait until air pressure reaches normal and then push-in the trailer air-supply knob to supply air to the emergency air-line. Be sure the trailer rolls freely and not resisted by trailer brakes.
b) Pull out air-supply knob to engage emergency brakes, pull the vehicle forward slowly to ensure the brakes are resisting.

A

a) Wait until air pressure reaches normal and release the parking brakes.
b) Slowly drive forward and apply the trailer brakes using the trolley valve. Be sure the brakes are resisting the vehicle.
