Chapter 5 Flashcards
Argument by analogy (analogical induction)
An argument by making use of an analogy reasoning that because two or more things are similar in some respects that they must be similar in some further respect
Biased sample
A sample of this not properly represent the target group
Representative sample
In enumerative induction a sample that represents the target group and all relevant Waze
Hasty generalization
The fallacy of drawing a conclusion about a target group based on an inadequate sample size
Sample
In enumerative induction the post members of the target group
Target group
In enumerative induction a whole collection of individuals under study
Analogy
A comparison of two or more things like in specific respects
Confidence level
In statistical theory the probability that the sample will accurately represent the target group within the margin of error
Margin of error
The variation between the values derived from a sample and the true values of the whole target group
Relevant property
In enumerative induction a sample that represents the target group at all relevant Waze
Sample members
In enumerative induction the observed members of the target group
Target population
In enumerative of induction the whole collection of individuals under a study
Argument by analogy
AK analogical induction an argument making use of an analogy reasoning that because two or more things are similar in some respects they must be similar in some further respect
Enumerative induction
An inductive argument pattern in which we reason from promises about the individual members of a group to conclusions about the group as a whole
Representative sample
A symbol that represents the target group and all relevant Waze
