What are symptoms of paracetamol overdose?
Gastric irritation e.g. diarrhoea
Liver failure after 3-5 days
What is the management of paracetamol overdose?
IV acetylcysteine if levels are above range
Monitor LFTs for abnormalities
What are symptoms of NSAID overdose?
N&V, electrolyte abnormalities
Later- decreased consciousness, tachypnoea and coma
What is the management of NSAID overdose?
Activated charcoal
What are symptoms of iron overdose?
N&V, diarrhoea and malaena initially followed by an improvement period
Then drowsiness, coma, shock and liver failure
What is the treatment of iron overdose
Gastric lavage if within 1hr post ingestion
What are symptoms of methadone overdose?
Pinpoint pupils, constipation, N&V
Later- weak pulse, low BP and shallow breathing
What is the treatment of methadone overdose?
Naloxone
What are symptoms of alcohol overdose?
Drowsiness, Coma, hypoglycaemia, resp failure
What is the treatment of alcohol overdose?
IV dextrose as needed
What are symptoms of detergent ingestion?
Dysphagia, N&V, dyspnoea, oral/cheek/abdo pain
What is the management of detergent ingestion?
Airway support and gastric emptying via NG tube
