Q

How is LCSD built up?

A

Outer ring: individual indicators (CO2, water use,…)

Inner ring: index for 1 dimension by aggregating the individual indicators

The indicators used for LCA, LCC & SLCA can be used and implemented

–> software ranks all values for each indicator

The better the performance of the product, the more points it gets

Overall evaluation: arithmetical average of the topic evaluations

Q

What are the challenges of LCSD?

A
  • limited number of (quantitative) indicators is currently considered
  • Indicator ranking does not provide information about the absolute performance, e.g. a “green-coloured” option appears to be significantly better than a “red-coloured” option, even though the actual difference may be very small
  • -> best result gets 1000 points (green), worst 0 points (red)
  • Different numbers of indicators for the different dimensions can be considered an indirect weighting (when many indicators need to be considered, they weigh not as much)

–Needs careful interpretation –> we apply a weighting factor of 1 and people are often not aware of it

Q

What weighting tool do you like better? the triangle or the dashboard?

A

Both have their advantages and disadvantages:

In my opinion, it depends a lot on who you want to communicate the results with.

dashoboard is easy to understand –> better for a broad target groups with all sorts of educational background

triangle is more specific, you can see the different weighting factors and how the result changes when changing the weighting
–> better for company decisions
