Q

Two weaknesses of the cognitive approach to treat depression

A
  1. Success is dependent on therapist to patient relationship, if you don’t get along with each other the success rate is low, it’s not the CBT being effective but it is about having someone in your life you can talk to you about your problems
  2. Not suitable for all types/causes of depression, it may be bad for people with trauma from childhood as CBT focuses on the present and future
    - Caused by a negative environment, this is bad because only thoughts change not environment so CBT is unsuccessful
