Q

What is some evidence that childhood has improved?

A
  • The Children And Social Work Act 2017 - improved childhood because it promoted the welfare and safe guarding of children
  • Working together to Safeguard act 2018 - this reinforces childhood protection whilst also colliding public bodies such as schools to provide the best care for children-

these policies conflict with the previous promotion of childhood as seen in the 18th century where children were not safeguarded and treated at min adults- Aires

What do sociologists who take a march of progress view on childhood see society and the family as?

A
  • Child centred for example
  • Parents invest financially , and emotionally in there children eg saving money for their future, whereas Victorian parents didn’t see this as necessary because the infant mortality rate was low
  • CHILDREN are no longer seen and not heard, which means they can voice there opinions and beliefs without a feeling of fear- eg Victorian discipline very different from modern views
  • Children are now the focal point of the family eg family holidays often focused around children
