On the ground, what provides bleed air for air conditioning?

A

On the ground: APU or engine bleed air (if both are available, APU bleed air takes

12
Q

Is air conditioning available on take off?

A

To maximize engine performance, there is no air conditioning during the first part of take-
off when at least 2 throttles are in take-off position and weight on wheels

13
Q

When does air conditioning come back after take off?

A

Air conditioning is available again:
- When all engines are operating and weight off wheel,
- Or after one or two engine failures (N1 below flight idle) and:
Throttles are retarded from take off position,
Or airplane altitude exceeds 15,000 ft.

14
Q

What is the function of the ACM fan?

A

On the ground and during low altitude flight, the ACM fan induces the airflow used to cool
the bleed air in the heat exchangers

15
Q

What is the main source of cooling air flow for the heat exchangers?

A

In flight, the cabin air jet pump accelerates the external air (the static air inlet is located behind engine 3 pylon leading edge). The induced airflow is the main source for cooling the heat exchangers and the ACM fan only assists the cabin air jet pump. The cabin air jet pump uses the air evacuated through the baggage outflow valve

17
Q

What are reasons why PAX OFF mode would have to be selected?

A

The PAX OFF mode is selected if control of the hot and/or cold air supply to the cabin is lost due to a valve or sensor failure. Crew members are alerted through a CAS message and the
selector must be turned to PAX OFF.

19
Q

Selecting CREW OFF mode closes which valves?

A

Closes the cockpit hot and cold valves

20
Q

When do you select EMERG ECS mode?

A

The EMERG mode is selected in the case of total loss of control of the air conditioning
system by the AMSAC.

21
Q

In EMERG mode, which pack cools bleed air?

A

Emergency pack. It has an emergency heat exchanger.

22
Q

What is the function of the AMSAC?

A

Air Management System Automatic Controller. Controls the pac operation in all ECS modes except BACK UP and EMERG modes.

23
Q

What is the function of the AMSEC?

A

Air Management System Emergency Controller. Controls the EMERGENCY pack while ECS system is operating in EMERG or BACKUP mode.

24
Q

During EMERG ECS mode, which two engines supply bleed air the EMERGENCY pack?

A

Engines 1 and 2

25
Q

Are Wings and S-DUCT A/I available when EMERG mode is selected?

A

No

26
Q

If we have to select BACKUP ECS mode, is the problem with the MAIN pack or AMSAC?

A

Its a MAIN pack failure issue. AMSAC is the MAIN pack controller and its still working fine. Bleed air cooling is the only function taken over by the EMERGENCY pack and AMSEC when we select BACKUP mode.

27
Q

In EMERG ECS mode, is the main pack functional? How about the AMSAC?

A

AMSAC functionality has completely failed but the Main pack may or may not be working. Either way, Main pack is isolated and the EMERGENCY pack is used.

28
Q

In all ECS modes, the Bleed Air Leak Detection function is performed by the AMSEC or AMSAC?

A

In all ECS modes, the Bleed Air Leak Detection function is performed by the AMSEC BALDS

29
Q

How many outflow valves are there?

A

2

Ground outflow valve and baggage outflow valve

30
Q

Whats is the temperature range for automatic temperature control?

A

12 c - 32 c

31
Q

How many baggage isolation valves are there?

A

2

32
Q

What does pressing the BAG ISOL switch accomplish?

A

closes the baggage isolation valves and the

baggage outflow valve

33
Q

What does pressing the GRND VENT button do?

A

Closes the ground outflow valve and recirculation valve

34
Q

In order to use the remote soft key, what two conditions must be met?

A

The ECS has to be in Auto mode

Pack rotary switch in Normal mode

35
Q

ECS test must be performed as part of the first flight of the day?

A

True

36
Q

When must you do the ECS test if Apu bleed is not available?

A

After all engines are started.

37
Q

How many pack controllers do we have and what are they called?

A

2

AMSAC & AMSEC

38
Q

When will the baggage compartment fan automatically turn on and turn off?

A

Automatically by the avionics: when one of the temperature sensors detects a temperature above 60°C, the fan starts. It will stop as soon as the baggage compartment temperature drops below 55°C.

39
Q

Where does the airplane take water from to work the humidifier?

A

Aircraft trim air system or aircraft potable water supply.

40
Q

In manual air conditioning mode what are the pilots controlling when using the manual knobs?

A

The hot air valves

41
Q

Does the remote soft key work in any mode other than Normal Mode?

A

No

42
Q

Can you manually open both lounge valves?

A

Yes

43
Q

Air cart shall not be used to supply the packs. True or False?

A

True. You dont want to circulate contaminated air thru the packs.

44
Q

Below 30000 ft, all the air goes out thru which outflow valves?

A

Both the baggage and cabin outflow valves

45
Q

Above 30000 ft, all the air goes out thru which outflow valves?

A

Only thru the baggage outflow valve. The cabin outflow valve is closed above 30000 ft
