Q

LOC or VOR approach

A

Same setup and stabilized approach plan as any approach.

• Calculate and set a DDA for any of the following

  • Published MDA
  • VNAV is not available (V/S used)
  • Cold temperature altitude corrections entered

When cleared for the approach
• Lateral - select/verify appropriate roll mode
• Altitude - select/verify next MCP altitude restriction
- No lower than FAF int altitude until TDZE requirements are met
- Set TDZE when: established on the approach and VNAV engaged
• Vertical - select/verify appropriate vertical mode
• Speed - speed window may be used outside FAF. Inside FAF speed window should be closed
• FMAs - confirm they match what is expected and briefed
• TDZE - Set once set on the approach

Q

RNAV (GPS/GNSS) and RNAV (RNP) Approach Procedures

A

• FMC — Set
-Verify GPS is updating prior to IAF (NAV STATUS pg 1)
-RNAV (GPS): manually set RNP to 0.30
-RNAV (RNP): set RNP per approach plate
-One pilot displays PROG pg 4/4 to verify ANP/RNP/XTK ERROR
• Radios — Set
-tune 108.0 (recommended)
-Inhibit all VOR and DME updating from NAV OPTIONS pg 2 prior to IAF
• EFIS control panel — Set
-Both pilots in map mode and at least one in 10nm scale or less by FAF
• Altimeter setting tolerance — Set local
-Crosscheck CA and FO altimeter is 100’ or less by FAF
After cleared for the approach, below the transition level, and/or no later than immediately following the 2500’ callout:
• Standard callouts
• LNAV — Engage/arm
-monitor PROG pg 4 for XTK error inside IAF
• Vertical mode — Engage/arm
-VNAV required for RNP approaches. Monitor PROG pg 4 for VERT DEV. Cannot exceed 75’ inside the FAF

Q

Single Engine ILS/GLS

A
  • Intercept localizer with Flaps 5 at Flaps 5 maneuver speed
  • When glide slope is 1-1.5 dots set Gear down, Flaps 15, Arm speed brakes, set Vref 15+5
  • With good weather and adequate time, consider zeroing out rudder trim prior to landing (not required)

Q

Single Engine Go-Around

A
  • Fly one of the following:
    • Engine failure procedure from ACARS landing data
    • T/O / MA on the applicable airport info page
    • If no engine failure procedure is listed track extended runway centerline
  • Apply go-around thrust, press TO/GA, rotate to F/D pitch (aprox 13°)
  • “Going-around, Flaps 1, check thrust”
  • “Positive rate, gear up, set missed approach altitude”
  • Adjust pitch to maintain Vref 15 + 5
  • At 400’ AFE: Call “HDG SEL/LNAV”
  • At 800’ AFE: “Set CMS” - Accelerate and clean-up as appropriate
  • “Set max continuous thrust” for climb
  • Abbreviated After T/O checklist

Q

Single engine non-precision approach

A
  • Flown Flaps 15 with VNAV (If available)
  • Intercept FAC with Flaps 5 at Flaps 5 maneuver speed
  • At aprox 1-1.5 nm from FAF: Gear down, Flaps 15
  • Descend on VNAV to DA/DDA, or if VNAV is not available, descend at 1000’/min to MDA

Q

Engine Failure on takeoff after V1

A
  • Announce “Engine failure”
  • Maximum thrust may be selected (TO/GA switch), but be prepared to compensate for increased asymmetry.
  • Smoothly apply rudder to parallel or gradually return to runway centerline.
  • Accelerate to Vr - V2
  • Rotate to 7-11° - Do not follow flight director commands until established in climb
  • Apply rudder and aileron to maintain heading
  • “Positive rate, Gear up”
  • Once established in climb target V2 for climb
  • Fly appropriate engine failure procedure
  • At 400’ AFE: Verify “HDG SEL/LNAV”
  • At 800’ AFE: If VNAV not armed for T/O, “Set CMS”
  • At CMS: “Set max cont thrust” (N1 LIMIT page)
  • Climb to 1500’ AFE min.
