What is the purpose of the transmission? (2)
- Takes combined power from the 2 engines, reduce the rpm, and transfer it to the main and tail rotors
- Secondary purpose is to provide a drive for electrical and hydraulic power generation
What are the components?
Main transmission modules, tail rotor drive shaft, oil cooler, IGB, and TGB
How many tail drive shafts?
6
Ballistically tolerant shafts suspended by 4 viscous-damped bearings
What are the modules of the MGB? (5)
- 2 Accessory Modules
- 2 Input Modules
- Main Module
What design and tilt does the MBG have?
Modular design with 3 degree forward tilt
Can the MGB oil filter be bypassed?
Yes
What is the purpose of the Input Module?
- To support the front of the engines
- Provide 1 gear reduction between the engines and main module
Components of the Input Module? (2)
Input bevel-pinion gear and Freewheeling Unit
What does the Freewheeling Unit provide?
Allows the engine to be disengaged from transmission when Nr > Np (auto)
What is the Engine Output Shaft do?
Provides drive from engine input module via diaphragm coupling.
What does the Diaphragm Coupling do?
Allows for slight misalignment of output shaft
What is the indication of a failing Diaphragm Coupling?
A loud or abnormal whining noise
What is the purpose of the Accessory Module
Provides mounting and drive for the generators and hydraulic pumps
Where is the Nr sensor for VIDS located?
Right Accessory Module
Where is the Nr sensor for TDI and the low pressure oil sensors located?
Left Accessory Module
