What is the hypothalamus?

A

Located on the underside of the brain, the hypothalamus plays an important role in the nervous and endocrine systems. It plays a role in regulation of body temp, circadian rhythms, eating behaviours, parental attachment. etc.

A

Part of the brain believe to play a key role in emotion and memory consolidation. Evidence that it plays role in fear, aggression, sexual orientation, trust

What is the hippocampus?

A

The part of the brain that appears to play a key role in consolidation of memory from short-term to long term, as well as spatial navigation. Home to several acetylcholine receptor sites. Hippocampal cell loss contributes to dementia, including Alzheimer’s.

Plays a key role in addiction, pleasure, reinforcement learning, aggression, and impulsivity. Significant number of dopamine receptors.
