Star Topology
A LAN where all devices are connected to a hub, computer sends message to hub and hub send it to all other connected devices
Logical star topology
When the hub receives a message it only send it to the connected computers that want it
Hub
In LAN it recieves a message (one at a time) and sends it all connected devices
Ethernet
Computers wired together in a LAN
Switch
Like lan but with 1-1 communication and no collision due to memory and separate sending and receiving wires
throughput
mesures performance via data transmission per second
WLAN
Wireless Lan
Automatic repeat request (ARQ)
A means to stop collision in both LAN and WLAN systems. When sending working it send (ACK) to device so it knows it worked, if no ACK sent back then a collision happend and both devices wait random amount of time
Controlled Access (collision avoidance)
the AP sends a request to send signal to 1 device and all other device know it is not there turn even if they cant “hear” the sending device.
hidden node problem
If computers can both reach AP but not each other they could send things at the same time creating a collision.
