what is transcription?
the process by which you take a gene and copy it into a structure called mRNA

the process to make a protein
what is the first step of transcription?
you get the gene you want to copy and an enzyme called RNA polymerase binds to the DNA just before where the gene starts
what is the second step of transcription?
the strands of DNA seperate as the enzyme moves along the gene creating a copy and close up behind the enzyme
how is the mRNA strand related to the DNA strand
the mRNA strand will be complementary to the DNA strand
what is the third step of transcription?
the RNA polymerase detaches from the strand and leaves the nucleus to the ribosome
what is translation?
when you take the mRNA strand and make a protein
what is the first step of translation?
the mRNA and ribosome bind
what is the second step of translation?
the amino acids are brought by the tRNA which has an anti-codon which complementary to the 3 bases on the mRNA
what is the third step of translation?
the tRNA gets attracted to the codon
what is the fourth step of translation?
after the ribosome has gone through all the bases it detaches from the amino acids which all join together
and fold on themselves to form a protein
