Indications
A
- physical or mental or medically compromising conditions
- Ineffective LA
- Behavior that doesn’t seem like it will improve
- Extensive trauma
- Pts that would avoid psych trauma w/ tx in the chair or have a medical risk in the chair

Contraindications
A
- Unsuitable GA risk, risk is too great
- URI
- Breaking NPO
- Active systemic disease w/ fever
- Healthy cooperative pt with min dental needs

NPO Instructions
A
- Clear liquids up to 2hrs prior
- Breastmilk up to 4 hrs prior
- Other milk/formula or light meal up to 6 hrs prior

A
- Medical history eval
- Explanation of procedure
- Risks and benefits and alternatives
- Informed consent obtained from legal guardian

Description of GA
A
loss of consciousness, not arousable even by painful stimuli, independent ventilatory function often impaired, need assistance w/ patent airway, pos pressure ventilation may be needed, CV function may be impaired
