What happens in the small intestine?
Digestion is completed and nutrience is passed through villi into the blood stream.
What happens in the mouth?
Food is chewed and mixed with saliva.
What happens in the stomache?
Food is mixed with digestive juices and stomache acid.
What happens in the large intestine?
Left over fibre, water and dead cells enterThe large intestine. Water is drained out by the large intestine leaving feces/poo.
What happens in the gullet?
Food passes down this tube.
What do the muscels in the gullet do?
The muscels in the gullet squish/push the food down the gullet and out the anus.
During digestion what happens to large molecules?
During digestion the large molecules are broken down to smaller molecules and passed into the bloodstream through the wall of the small intestine.
How are the small molecules passed into the bloodstream?
The small molecules a passed through the small intestine. The small intestine has a thin wall and it is covered with tiny structures called villi. These stick out of the wall and give it a big surface area. They also contain blood capillaries to carry away the absorbed food molecules.
