Module 7 Flashcards
What is a subset?
A set that has every element in another set as well
What is an empty set?
A set with no elements
What is a union?
A collection of all of the elements listed in the sets
What is an intersection?
A collection of the elements listed in both of the sets
What is theoretical probability?
The number of ways one particular event can occur in a random experiment, divided by the total number of possible outcomes
What is empirical probability?
Probability whereas one gathers data by performing multiple experiments, or trials, and recording the results each time
How can one accurately measure relative frequency?
Through random experiments
What is the law of large numbers?
As the number of trials increases, the relatively frequency of an event will converge on the theoretical probability.
What is a sample space?
The total number of possible outcomes in an experiment
What is a sample size?
The number of different outcomes
What is a complement?
The opposite of an event happening
What is an example of complementary events?
A, not A
What is a disjoint?
If two events cannot occur at the same time
What is an independent event?
Events not affected by other trials or events
What is conditional probability?
The probability of an event occurring, given that another event has already occurred.
