Clinical features

The pain, which is usually;

  • sudden
  • severe
  • and midline
  • has a tearing sensation
  • situated retrosternally and between the scapulae

It radiates to:

  • the abdomen
  • flank
  • and legs

the inequality in the pulses (e.g. carotid, radial and femoral).
