5th station - small intestine Flashcards

1
Q

What types of digestions does the small intestien contain?

A

Physical: Bile salt in bile secreted by the liver emulsifies lipid into tiny lipid droplets
Chemical:
Pancreatic amylase: starch –> maltose
Pancreatic lipase: lipid–> glycerol + fatty acids
Protease: protein –> peptide –> amino acid
Carbohydrases: disaccharide –> monosaccharide

Q

Background information of the small intestine’s digestive juice

A

Pancrease, liver, gall bladder are the 3 associated organs which involve in the secretion of different digestive juice into the duodenm to continue the digestion processes. However, not only these 3 associated organs, small intestine (duodenum and ileum) itself also involves in chemical digestion

Q

The feature of intestinal juice

A
  1. produced by intestinal glands on the wall of duodenum and the first part of ileum
  2. do not contain enzymes for chemical digestions

Q

What intestinal juice contains?

A
  1. Mucus:
    secreted by mucus-secreting cells
  2. Sodium hydrogencarbonate
neutralize acidic chyme and provide an alkaline medium for other enzymes in small intestine work

Q

What are the types of enzymes that are fixed on the cell membrane of intestinal epithelial cell?

A
carbohydrases:
maltase: maltose --> glucose
sucrase: sucrose --> glucose + fructose
lactose :lactose --> glucose + galactose
