  • Migraine with aura
  • History of VTE
  • History or current breast/cervical cancer

What happens if you miss pills on the oral contraceptive?

A

1 missed pill - Take next pill as soon as possible, no contraception needed

2 missed pills - Take pills as soon as possible, no more than 2 in one day, consider additional contraception for 1 week

If missed pill is in first week of pack - Emergency contraception

If missed pill is in last week of pack - Don’t take a break, immediately take next pack

What are the progesterone-only options?

A

Mirena coil - 5 years

Progesterone depot - Cannot be given to extremes of reproductive age, will affect fertility for up to a year after cessation, 2-3 months

Implant - SC implant, lasts 3 years

Progesterone only pill
