Section 4 (Ch. 7 & 8) Flashcards
Physiological Systems
Organ systems within the body; NS, cardiac, musculoskeletal.
Theoretical Bridge
The connection between two different variables.
Electrodes
Sensors usually placed on the surface of the skin and linked to a physiological recording machine to measure physiological variables.
Telemetry
The process by which electrical signals are sent from electrodes to a polygraph using radio waves instead of wires.
Automatic Nervous System (ANS)
Part of peripheral NS, connects to vital bodily structures associated with maintaining life and responding to emergencies. Sympathetic and parasympathetic.
Electrodermal Activity
Galvanic skin response or skin conductance.
Electricity will flow across the skin with less resistance if that skin is made damp with sweat. Sweating palms activated by SNS; therefore, it is a way to measure changes in the SNS.
Skin Conductance
The degree to which skin carries (conducts) electricity, depends on amount of water present in the skin.
