Q

What are the advantages and disadvantages of fossil fuel energy use?

A

Advantages: Uses existing technology; releases lots of energy; can be built anywhere.
Disadvantages: releases carbon dioxide increasing the greenhouse effect contributing to global warming and climate change; produces sulfur dioxide contributing to acid rain.

Q

What are the advantages and disadvantages of solar energy use?

A

Advantages: does not produce greenhouse gases; land can be used for livestock farming simultaneously.
Disadvantages: Does not produce large amounts of energy; dependent upon climate; uses large areas of land.

Q

What are the advantages and disadvantages of wind energy use?

A

Advantages: does not produce greenhouse gases; land can be used for livestock farming simultaneously; can be built out to sea where wind is more reliable
Disadvantages: Does not produce large amounts of energy; dependent upon climate; uses large areas of land; can be an eyesore.

Q

What are the advantages and disadvantages of nuclear energy use?

A

Advantages: Uses existing technology; releases lots of energy; does not produce carbon dioxide.
Disadvantages: produces radioactive waste which is radioactive for a long time and so difficult to dispose of; risk of nuclear leaks and explosions so needs to be built far from population centres.
