10.7 Applicable Requirements Flashcards
(62 cards)
What do maintenance programmes and schedules outline?
Lists of tasks with intervals specified in terms of flight hours, flight cycles or calendar time
What is the block (pyramid) maintenance system?
It is often represented by letter checks A,B,C and D are grouped together
What happens as the flight hours increase?
The amount of task will also increase
Who would use the block (pyramid) method?
Long haul carries and older aircraft that can be scheduled for longer periods on the ground
What are the disadvantages of the block (pyramid) method?
It involves large gaps between checks and the plane can be on the ground for extended periods
How does the equalised (progressive) system checks work?
These checks, sometimes referred to as E‑checks, contain the same tasks as in the Block system but are packaged differently. For example, the work involved in a D‑check could be distributed across multiple C‑checks (C1, C2, C3, C4), which progressively involve deeper inspections or component replacements
Who is the equalised (Progressive) checks suitable for?
Shirt haul, low cost carriers and newer aircraft that require minimal downtime
Explain an A check?
Performed every 500-800 flying hours or 200-400 cycles
Takes about 20-50 man hours
Can be performed overnight at airport terminal or gate hangar
Explain a B check?
Performed every 4-6 months
Takes approx 150 man hours
Usually performed within 1 and 3 days
A-1 through A-10 complete a B check
Explain a C check?
Performed every 20 to 24 months
Takes 6000 man hours
Takes 1-2 weeks
Explain a D check?
Performed approx every 5 years
Uses 50,000 man hours
Can take 1-2 months
What is an airworthiness directive for?
Unsafe conditions or something that is likely to develop
Are AD mandatory?
Yes
What must the holder of relevant design/manufacturer do for the CAA?
Propose required action (requires CAA approval)
Provide data to relevant authorities and organisations
What will an AD contain?
an identification of the unsafe condition;
an identification of the affected aircraft;
the action(s) required;
the compliance time for the required action(s);
the date of entry into force.
Who will approve an alternative means of compliance for an AD?
The CAA
What do the applicants seeking an alternative means of compliance need to do?
demonstrate that an equivalent level of safety is achieved compared to the compliance with the original AD
What happens if an AD is superseded what happens to the alternative means of compliance?
They will become invalid
What is a Sensitive Security Airworthiness Directives?
It is an AD yet it contains security sensitive information
When is an SSAD uploaded to the UK CAA AD publishing tool?
After the end of the SSAD compliance time and without attachments
What are service bulletins?
These are optional improvements and can require alteration to the aircraft
What do the operators do with service bulletins?
Operators use discretion on wether or not to incorporate the bulletins
The SB include one of these four compliance recommendation categories what are these?
Service Bulletin must be accomplished
Service Bulletin recommended to be accomplished to prevent significant operational disruptions
Service Bulletin to introduce improvements
Service Bulletin for convenience or option
Can a sb be cancelled after being issued?
Must not be cancelled once issued
