The deep system should be evaluated for thrombus, the treated vein should be evaluated for diameter measurements and with color flow. The distance between the SFJ and most proximal point of closure of the GSV should be measured. If thrombus extends into the deep system, the GSV must me ligated. DVT is a contraindication for the procedure.
