What is cholera and what is the casual agent
It is a disease that causes severe gastrointestinal diahrrea due to the Vibrio cholera pathogen
Which is more dangerous food or waterborne cholera and why
Foodborne cholera is more dangerous because the food is able to protect the pathogen
What is the difference between food poisoning and food infection
Food poisoning refers to when there is a microbial endotoxin on the food that causes disease within the person while food infection is when the individual is when there is an infection caused by microbes on the food
What is an example of food poisoning and how does it happen
An example would be food poisoning that is caused by staphylococcus aureus which releases a toxin that can be a superantigen at times
What are bacterial food-borne diseases and nonbacterial food-borne diseases?
Bacterial foodborne are Salmonella, e-coli, and listeria, Non bacterial foodborne pathogens are norovirus and prions
What is salmonellosis, what are its sources, and how does it affect host
Salmonellosis is a disease caused by salmonella bacteria, its source is eggs or infected meat, and it affects the host by growing on the inside of phagocytes and producing a harmful toxin
What is E. coli and why can it be dangerous at times
E. Coli is a pathogenic parasitic bacterial foodborne infection that lives in the gi tract of its host and it is dangerous because it is able to create dangerous toxins
What is listeriosis what does it cause and what are the sources of listeriosis and why is refrigeration useless against this bacteria
Listeriosis is a disease caused by listeria monocytogenes and it can cause bacteremia which is when bacteria is present in the blood. Its sources is the ground and water and refrigeration is useless against it because it can survive cold temperatures
What is the major cause of foodborne illnesses
The major cause of foodborne illnesses are viruses
What is the norovirus and how is it spread
The norovirus is a virus that can cause diarrhea and vomiting. It is spread through someone who is infected that is handling any food
What prion disease can be a foodborne illness
vCJD is an incurable prion disease spread through the consumption of meat with mad cows disease
