Histology Flashcards
Key cell of acute inflammation
Neutrophils
Key cell of chronic inflammation
Lymphocytes and plasma cells (could also be lymphoma)
Eosinophils associations
Allergic - asthma
Parasitic infections - shigella
Tumours
Macrophage associations?
Late acute inflammation
Chronic inflammation incl. granulomas
What are granulomas?
Collection of activated macrophages.
They become secretory instead of phagocytic.
Types of carcinomas
Squamous cell - keratin production, intercellular bridges
Adenocarcinomas - mucin production and in glands
Transitional cell carcinomas
All derive from epithelium and therefore have those properties.
What are the two types of stains?
Histochemical
Immunohistochemical
What does a congo red stain confirm?
Amyloid presence
Apple green birefringence
What is immunohistochemical stains based in?
Using an antibody specific to an antigen in the tissue.
