What are the etiologies of liver abscesses?
A
- portal -> pylophlebitis, diverticulitis, pelvic infections
- biliary -> cholecystitis, ascending cholangitis, pancreatitis
- arterial -> septicemia
- trauma -> necrotic tissue in blunt or penetrating injuries
- direct extension -> empyema of the gallbladder, subphrenic or perinephric abscess
- infected liver cyst or tumor
