The Microbiome Flashcards

1
Q

What is the microbiome?

A

The genetic material of all the microbes - bacteria, fungi, protozoa and viruses - that live, on and inside an animal.
Microbiome likely outnumbers host cells (especially ruminants)

Q

What is metagenomics

A

enables the study of all microorganisms, regardless of whether they can be cultured or not, through the analysis of genomic data
