Cell Part Definitions Flashcards
(15 cards)
Nucleus
Contains the D.N.A of the organsim and controls the cells activities. Found in both Animal and Plant cells.
Cytoplasm
The liquid (mainly water) that makes most of the cell where the chemical reactions occur. Found in both Animal and plant cells.
Cell Membrane
A flexible outer layer that surrounds te cell and controls which substances can pass into and out from it.
Mitochondria
Tiny parts of cells floating in the cytoplasm where energy is realeased from glucose from food. The mitochondia are where the most respiration occurs. Found in both Animal and Plant cells.
Cell Wall
A tough outer layer of the cell, which contains cellulose to provide strength and support the plant as well as keeping the cell rigid. Only found in Plant cells.
Vacuole
A space inside the cytoplasm that contains a watery liquid called cell sap. It keeps the cell firm. Only found in Plant cells.
Chloroplasts
Structures found in the cells of green parts only (leaves and stems) which contain a green pigment called chlorophyll in which photosynthesis ocuurs. Only found in Plant cells.
What is is the rule of reflection
Angle of Incidense = Angle if Reflection
How does a pinhole camera work
The light comes in the hole and gives an inverted image of the object
how does a periscope work
the top mirror (at a 45 degree angle) reflects light through the periscope onto the bottom mirror (also 45 degrees) into ur eye
what makes white light
all the colurs of the spectrum
how does a prism work
the white light goes into the prism and the different parts of the white light go at different speeds and seperate.
What does mrs gren stand for?
movement, reproduction, sensitivity, growth, respiration, excretion, nutrition
Why do objects appear coloured
Say you have white light coming at a red object, the object would appear red, since white light includes red, so all the other colours would be absorbed and red reflected. But if you out green light onto a red object it would appear black, since there is no red in green, so no relfection, only absorbtion.
What are the differences of Plant cells compared to Animal cells?
Vacuole
