IUD String Assessment?

  1. Make sure you can see the IUD strings on a PAP test. If strings are not in place, pt is at risk of pregnancy
  2. Ultrasound if unable to see strings so you can see if IUD is in place.
  3. Copper IUD can stay in for 10 years

Diabetes & Gastroporesis

  1. Diabetes is the most common cause of gastroporesis
  2. Gastroparesis is a condition in which the muscles in the wall of the stomach work poorly or don’t work at all, slowing or delaying the rate at which food empties from the stomach to the intestine
  3. Sx’s such as abdominal pain, nausea, bloating, vomiting, heartburn, and a lack of appetite

  1. Actos (TZDs) — Start dose 15-30mg and MAX dose 45mg/day
  2. Glipizide (Sulfonylureas) — Start 5 mg; MAX dose 40 mg/day
  3. Lantus — Start 0.2 units/kg/dose up to 10 Units/Day
  4. Humulin 70/30 (NPH/Insulin regular)
  5. Humulog (Insulin Lispro)
  6. New medication is Ozempic** (Semaglutide)

  1. DO NOT Put a woman who is over 220 on birth control EVER. They are sedentary and will either stroke out or have an MI
  2. A large woman will sometimes still get pregnant when on contraceptives.
  3. NEVER NEVER remove an IUD from a woman who is pregnant. You can cause a spontaneous abortion

  2. Consider Certrazine zyrtec 10 mg at bedtime d/t drowsiness 2nd generation antihistamine
  3. Assess for allergic shiners, boggy terbunates

Nexplanon Placement

A
  1. 4.0 Nylon — for closing anything on the body.
  2. 2.5-3 ml’s of lidocaine for pain
  3. Make small insicion site with scalpel and use the forecepts to open the skin.
  4. One small stitch to close the wound and tripple knot the tie.

Place nexplanon directly under the skin and not too deep
