Direct vasodilator Hydralazine

A
  • hydralazine ( Apresoline)
    Action: causes direct relaxation of arteriolar smooth muscle
    -Primarily used in emergencies to quicklly decrease BP. Given IV

  • DOC for HTN emergency
  • Defined as diastolic grater than 120

A

IV continous infusion

  • effects begin in seconds
  • not used longer than 72 hours
  • toxic accumulation of thiocyanate
  • if increased bv occurs -> manage with furosemide
