What is a network protocol?
All the common tasks on the internet have one or more protocols behind it.
What is Ethernet?
Ethernet is astandard communication protocol used to create local area networks. It transmits and receives data through cables
What is FTP and what does is stand for?
file transfer protocol
used to transfer files across a network
what are TCP and IP?
They are two different protocols that work together TCP is a protocol that breaks data into data packets and reassembles them and the destination.
however, IP is in charge of routing and addressing data packets to ensure they arrive at the correct destination
email protocol
SMTP- simple mail transfer protocol.
This protocol is used when an email client application (like Microsoft/outlook/apple mail) wants to send an email.
STMP servers will ‘listen’ for STMP requests from email clients. If the client is authorised to send an email from the server the STMP server will attempt to relay the message on to the email server that handles the email for the recipient.
