Photosynthesis-Lesson 1 Flashcards
What are the reactants are needed for photosynthesis?
Carbon Dioxide and Water
What is a stomata and what is its function?
Stomata are tiny pores in the underside of the leaf, which allows gases to enter and leave.
What are the products of photosynthesis?
Glucose and oxygen
Whats the chemical equation for photosynthesis?
CO2 + H2O 一> C6H12O6 + O2
What are the uses of glucose?
Respiration, Sucrose, starch, Cellulose, Fats and Oils, can be combined with nitrates to form proteins.
What type of reaction is photosynthesis and where does it take place?
Its an endothermic reaction and takes place in the chlorophyll ( Inside the chloroplasts ).
What is the function of chlorophyll in the plant?
It allows light to be absorbed so photosynthesis can happen.
Whats the first stage of photosynthesis?
Energy transferred from light splits water molecules into oxygen gas and hydrogen ions ( this stage is light dependant ).
Whats stage 2 of photosynthesis?
Carbon dioxide gas combines with the hydrogen ions to make glucose ( light independent).
Do plants respire 24 hours?
True
Do plants photosynthesise 24 hours?
False
Does destarching involve keeping the plant in the dark for 24 hours
Yes
Would light be able to reach a part of a plant that has been covered
No
What can you use to test for starch
Iodine
How can you prove that carbon dioxide is needed for photosynthesis?
Place a destarched plant inside a flask, place soda lime inside to absorb water vapour and carbon dioxide (inside the flask).
