What are government initiatives?
the government put a law in place to ensure ‘all pupils receive their entitlement of two hours of high quality physical education per week’. This increases participation and student’s fitness.
What are PE school sports and club links (PESSCL)?
A link setup by the government to improve sporting opportunities for those 5-26 years old. It provides opportunities for young people to participate in sports through performing, leading and being officials. The aim is to strengthen links between schools and local clubs.
What are school sports partnerships
the aim is to develop sporting opportunities in a wide range of sports and offer high quality training and competitions within a local community based around a group of local schools with a college at the centre asa hub.
What’s the organisation SPORTS ENGLAND?
This organisation believes that ‘sport has the power to change lives’. SPORT ENGLAND is committed to helping people start, stay and succeed in sport.
What’s the sports trust TOP LINK?
TOP programmes are designed to get people of all abilities into sport.
TOP LINK is aimed at people ages 14-16 and it encourages them to organise sporting events and experience being a sports leader which can also go towards their GCSE PE qualification.
What’s the active kids programme?
various companies can run voucher schemes in which parents can collect vouchers to give to the school and other sports centres which can be used to buy sporting equipment. e.g. Active spots programme- Sainsburys.
What is the Start in Start, Stay, Succeed?
increase sports participation in order to improve the nation’s health with a focus on a priority group

The acquisition of good excursive of good exercise/skill habits provides a base for personal development and future participation in a chosen sport.
What does the participation level entail?
It’s when young people begin to participate regularly in a specific activity for enjoyment
Sports development is a big part of this stage with community TOP programme (after school programmes, school festivals, multi skills clubs and club/school links)
Sports clubs become important because they link to the next stage of sports development.
What does performance mean?
When young people begin to concentrate on sport specific skills and develop talents in different sports.
Quality coaching is essential at this stage in development.

This is the peak of the pyramid where it narrows as fewer people make it to this level. Governing bodies of sport are responsible at this level of sport as players pass from county to regional to national squads.
