Symptoms?

A

Patches or red blotches on the baby’s bottom.

Hot and sore looking skin on the area where usually a nappy is applied.

Pimples/spots in the area

Blisters on the skin

With these symptoms common sign is when a baby is irritable or fussy indicating signs that nappy rash may be prevalent.

A

Has the rash spread at all?

How often are you changing the patients nappies?

What are you using to clean the area?

Are the nappies the right size, not too tight?

What is the patients fluid intake and diet like?

Are you drying the area and allowing it to air?

Red flag?

A

Persistent red or white pimples that spread into folds of the patients skin - it could be an infection.

Treatment?

A

Topical imidazoles:

  • Topical clotrimazole 1% cream
  • Apply a thin layer 2–3 times a day for at least two weeks after the affected area has healed

Sudocreme:
Apply cream 2-3 times a day to affected area and massage in circular movement until absorbed into the skin.
