Q

what is data communication

A

movement of computer information from one point to another by means of electrical or optical transmission systems.

Server
Client
circuit

Network without server is called peer to peer network

Q

What is router

A

it is a special deivce that connects two or more networks

It enables one computer to connect to other computers on the same network or on the internet.

Q

Types of network

A

LAN = commonly operates at 100 million bits per second (100 mbps )
Backbone network = connecting serveral LANs and other networks
(100-1000 mbps)
Wide area networks = connect BNs and MaNs

Q

Seven Layers of OSI Model

A

1 Physical Layer =transmitting data bits (zeros and ones) over a communication circuit
2 Data link layer= it manages the physical transmission circuit in layer 1. tranforms it into a circuit that is free of transmission errors.
3 Network Layer = it performs routing.
4 Transport layer = deals with end to end issues, such as procedures for entering and departing from the network. Maintain logical connections. makes sure that packets are received.
5 session layer = It for managing and structuring all sessions
6 Presentation layer = formast the data for presentation to the user
7 Application layer = it is the end user’s access to the network.

Q
Internet Model
(Layers)
A

1 Physical layer = physical connection between the sender and receiver
2 data link layer = moving message from one computer to the next computer in the network path from the sender to receiver.
3 Network layer = the network layer performs routing
4 The transport layer = responsible for linking the application layer software to the network and estabilishing end to end connections.
5 Application = application layer is the application software used by the network user.

Q

what is hardware layer

A

Some people group data link layer and physical layer together in the internet model and call them hardware layer.

Q

Message transmission using layers

A

1 each computer in the network has software that operates at each of the layers and performs the functions required by those layers
2 each layer i the network uses a formal language or protocol, that simply a set of rules that define what the layer will do
3 message sent in the network pass through all the layers
4 All layers except physical layer create a new protocol data unit as the messages passes through them.
