What was the situation with the pentagon papers

A

The papers contained confidential information about the Vietnam war, and the new york times got hold of it. It was leaked by DAniel Ellsberg who worked at the pentagon. Nixon was furious that information could be leaked. He set up a group called the ‘White house plumbers’ who broke into Ellsberg’s psychiatrist to find evidence to discredit him.

What was the watergate scandal

A

Five men were arrested after breaking into offices of the national democratic committee in watergate complex, they were caught in the act trying to repair bugging devices, that had been installed on a previous break-in. Nixon stated that no one from the white house staff was involved., the five were trialled and sentenced. White House officials told the five to lie. Nixon denied knowing of the scandal, Nixon’s recordings had been leaked in an investigation, he feared it would rat him out so he released edited tapes. The public were shocked by his swearing. This led to the conspiracy that the president had something to do with the scandal so so the supreme court asked for all the recordings. Nixon resigned befored he could be impeached.

What was Ford’s bad decision as president

A

He pardoned Richard Nixon for any crimes he may of committed and he would not face trial, this was controversial as many Americans wantred to see Nixon brought to justice.
