Q

Explain dipole-dipole and London dispersion forces

A

Attractions among molecules with dipole moments
n Hydrogen bonding is a particularly strong form of dipole–dipole attraction
n Occurs in molecules containing hydrogen bonded to a highly electronegative
element such as nitrogen, oxygen, or fluorine
n Produces unusually high boiling points
London dispersion forces
n Caused by instantaneous dipoles that form in atoms or nonpolar molecules
