Motion Flashcards
Newton’s first law
An object will stay at rest/constant velocity if forces are balanced or no resultant force.
If s resultant force acts, the object will accelerate in the direction of the force
Newton’s second law
acceleration is directly proportional to force appleid
F=ma
Newton’s third law
If object A exerts a force on object B, object B will exert an equal and opposite force on object A
Work done equation
Work done = force x distance in direction fo force
Moment
force * perpendicular distance from line of action of the force to the point
Centre of gravity
point at which force of gravity or weight appears to act
Finding the center of gravity
For regular/uniform objects find the center
For irregular objects: hang object and plum line with a clamp over stand
Wait for object to stabilize and draw a line aligned with the plum line over object
Rotate object and repeat
the point of intersection of the lines is where the centre of gravity is
