1.1.3 & 1.1.4 Quiz Flashcards
(29 cards)
What are the four types of bone
Flat, irregular, short, long
What are the 4 types of tissue?
Connective, muscle, epithelial, nervous
What is function of epithelial
Protects, absorbs secretes and senses. Lines ALL organs and blood vessels
What is function of nervous
Receive, interpret and responds to signals
What is function of connective
Supports and connects other tissues and bones
What is function of muscle tissue
Makes up muscles. Function: contract/move.
What are the three types of muscle tissue
Skeletal, smooth and cardiac
Describe skeletal muscle tissue and where u would find it?
Striated and parallel, u would find this attached to bone
Describe smooth muscle and where u would find it
Non striated and not parallel. Function: lines all organs
Describe cardiac muscle and where u would find it
Striated by not that parallel (involuntary). Found in the heart
Difference between epithelium and connective tissue
Epithelium is aligned in sheets and connective tissue has more gaps(adipose)
What type of tissue is bone?
Comnective
What type of tissue is cartilage
Connective
What type of tissue is Tendon
Connective
What type of tissue is Ligament
Connective
What type of tissue is Nerve
Nervous
Histology def
The study of microscopic anatomy of tissues
Physiology def
Study of how human body works
Compact bone:
A solid and hard bone that makes up the outer layer of all bones and the shafts of long bones
Spongy bone
A porous bone found in Animals containing red bone marrow
Yellow bone marrow
Stores fat (adipocytes) for energy, in king bone cavities, can convert to red bone marrow if necessary
Red bone marrow
Produces blood cells (hematopoiesis) and contains stem cells, in actual flat bones and the proximal ends of the humerus and femur [at birth all bone marrow is red]
Osteocytes
Bone cells
Haversian canal, canaliculi
Microscopic tubes that carry various structures such as nerves in compact bone. (Huge circle in middle of bone histology diagram)
