Left realists draw on there concept to explain crime- how deprived someone feels in relation to others- lead to crime when people resent others therefore resort to crime to obtain what they feel they are entitled to

Owes much to Merton, cohen& cloward and ohlin on blocked opportunities.
-however groups may turn to crime to close the ‘deprivation gap’

-groups aren’t able to get the satisfactory they want such as unemployed youths- no help leads to frustration turn to crime such as riots
