Glycolysis enzymes Flashcards

1
Q

How do kinases work?

A

The first step in glucose metabolism is transport of glucose across the membrane. Then, kinases phosphorylate the glucose molecules. GLUT transporters are specific for glucose, not phosphorylated glucose, so glucose gets trapped inside the cell and can’t leave.
