A

Edwards authority was under threat because he raised taxes for funding an invasion of France but failed to carry them out
Instead he kept the money to himself which lead to widespread discontent
He excluded his most powerful magnets from court of his own blood

April 1469 Rebellion

A

A succession of uprisings developed in the North

April 1469 there was an uprising in Yorkshire led by Robin of Redesdale
Robin of Holderness (who wanted to restore the Percy’s)

These rebellions were suppressed quickly by the Earl of Northumberland (Montague)

June 1469 Rebellion

A

June 1469 inspired by the Nevilles, another rebellion led by Robin Redesdale
Henry Fitzhugh (Ws nephew) and Henry Neville (Ws cousin)

(Henry Fitzhugh and Henry Neville were killed in the Battle of Edgecote in 1469)

The Nevilles spread propaganda pointing to how Edward’s government hadn’t fixed any problems of Henry’s government and nothing had changed despite the usurpation

A

Edward reacted slowly to this Rebellion
When he received news that his force did not match the rebels he appealed to Coventry and other towns for support
However, he realised the Woodville’s were unpopular so he sent them away

The Marriage of Clarence and Isabel

A

Edward sent letters to Clarence and Warwick requesting they come to his aid and show him the rumours they were behind the rebellion were false
However, Warwick had already travelled in secret to Calais and was celebrating the Marriage of Isabel and Clarence
