Q

The cerebellum receives continuous information from ?

A

Motor&raquo_space;> motor cortex

Proprioceptive information (sense of
position and movement of body parts in space) >>> the skeletal muscles, tendons, and joints.

equilibrium&raquo_space;> the inner ear through CN #8

Q

The cerebellum compares the information received from the motor cortex with information received from the sensory receptors if detect any error in muscular activity, it can correct this error through indirect pathways to the lower motor neurons in the spinal cord ……thus it maintains ?

A

Q

External Surface of Cerebellum

A

It is formed of two cerebellar hemispheres joined by a median narrow part; the vermis.
• Cerebellar surface is divided by numerous curve transverse fissures giving it a laminated appearance.
• A deep fissure; the horizontal fissure, lies along the margin of the cerebellum and separates the superior from the inferior surface.

Q

Internal Structure of Cerebellum

A

Outer gray matter called cerebellar cortex, extensively folded forming folia.
• Inner white matter showing distinctive treelike
pattern called Arbor vitae (In latin “tree of life”)&raquo_space;>
It brings sensory and motor sensation to and from cerebellum

Q

Anatomical Lobes of Cerebellum

A

The cerebellum is divided into three main lobes: the anterior lobe, the middle lobe and the flocculonodular lobe

13
Q

The anterior lobe

A

The anterior lobe can be seen on the superior surface. It is separated from the posterior lobe by a wide V- shaped fissure called the primary fissure

Q

The posterior (middle) lobe

A

The posterior (middle) lobe, which is the largest part of the cerebellum, is situated between the primary and posterolateral fissure.
