Training Types Flashcards
What is continuous training
Training at moderate intensity for long periods of time (minimum 20 minutes)
What are the advantages of continuous training
Little to no equipment, can be done anywhere, it is simple to do the same movement over and over again
What are the disadvantages of continuous training
Boring and time consuming, repetitive action can cause injury
What is interval training
Training at high intensity followed by low intently/ period of rest
What is an example of interval training
Sprint test print test
What component does continuous training improve
Cardiovascular endurance
What component does interval training improve
Speed
What are the advantages of interval training
Needs no equipment, length of interval can be tailored to suit individual sport
What are the disadvantages of interval training
Highly intensity can cause injury/ exhaustion and high level of motivation are required to work at high intensity
What is Plyometric training
To use weight and gravity to stress the muscles
What is the definition of eccentric and concentric
Eccentric: longer
Concentric: smaller
What are the steps for muscles
- Performed lengthens the muscle (eccentric)
- The stores ‘elastic energy’
- This leads to stronger concentric contraction
Example of plyometric training
Box jumping, squat jumps, step yo
What are the advantages of plyometric training
Very effective at improving power
Sport specific actions can be included
What are the disadvantages of plyometric training
Can cause injury and muscle tears
Specialist equipment may be required
