Paget’s Disease of the Nipple - what is it?

A

Looks like eczema of the nipple/areolar
Erythematous, scaly rash
Indicates breast cancer involving the nipple
May represent DCIS or invasive breast cancer
Requires biopsy, staging and treatment, as with any other invasive breast cancer

Presentation of pagets disease of the nipple

A

An erythematous ‘eczema-like’ rash, usually unilateral.
Itchy, inflamed nipple
Burning sensation
Discharge from the affect area
May also be discharge from the nipple related to the underlying cancer
Inverted nipple

Paget’s disease of the nipple - what is it?

A

A malignant disease which has an eczematous appearance, involving the nipple. It is commonly associated with an underlying ductal carcinoma in situ. It is associated with 2% of all cases of breast cancer.
