WMM Research Flashcards

1
Q

Central executive research

A

Bunge

P’s performed one of two tasks (reading sentence and recalling words) - fMRI scans of brain during. Active during both but more active during condition 2. Different STM components in different brain areas work independently once CE has delegated tasks

Q

Visio-spatial sketchpad research

A

Baddeley

Asked p’s to do two tasks that would utilise VSS. Task 1 - use pointer to track point of light, task 2: mover round letter ‘F’. P’s were able to perform tasks separately but together both were impaired

Q

Phonological loop research

A

Baddeley

Found when p’s were asked to remember a list of long words rather than short words they found it harder to remember the longer words. Called word length effect. Pl has 2 seconds rehearsal in articulatory process

Q

Episodic buffer research

A

Alkhakifa

Studied a patient who had severely impaired LTM but demonstrated a STM of us to 25 items - exceeding capacity - EB holds items that cannot be held by other slave systems until it needs to be recallled
