Forces, moments and momentum Flashcards

1
Q

Q

What are balanced and unbalanced forces

A

Balanced forces are when 2 or more forces acting on an object are equal meaning there is no resultant force and the object doesn’t move
Unbalanced forces are when 2 or more forces acting on ab object in any direction are unequal meaning the object moves in the direction with more net force (resultant force)

Q

What is Newtons first law of motion?

A

An object at rest will continue to be at rest unless an external unbalanced force acts on it
And an object in motion will continue to move at constant speed unless a net force acts upon it.

Q

Using inertia explain why seatbelts are important?

A

Passengers move at the same speed as the car but when there is a sudden brake or stop the passengers bodies resist the change in velocity and continue moving forward a bit before stopping.
