Protects body, waterproofs it, regulates body temperature. Has temperature, pressure, and pain receptors.

Body’s vast acting control system. Responds to changes inside and outside the body. EX- Temperature, sound, light, or stretching of muscles, or decrease in oxygen.

Pituitary, thyroid, parathyroids, adrenals, thymus, pancreas, pineal, ovaries (in females), testes (in men). They are not connected anatomically.

Slow acting control system. Releases hormones that travel to relatively distant organs. Growth, reproduction, and food used by cells are all controlled by the endocrine system.

Carries oxygen, nutrients, hormones, and other substances to and from the tissue cells.

Oral cavity, esophagus, stomach, small and large intestines, and rectum. (Accessory organs- liver, salivary glands, pancreas, and others)

Breaks down food and delivers products to the blood. Undigested food is expelled from body. Also reclaims water.
